2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

SCHEDULE A TEST DRIVE

Overview

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD is a capable workhorse, prepared to tow even heavy trailers or equipment. This heavy-duty Silverado has six trims: the WT, Custom, LT, ZR2, LTZ, and High Country. With a wide range of trims and cab configurations, the 2024 Silverado is designed to fit a broad range of budgets, but drivers won’t have to compromise on capability. Settled between the standard 1500 and the mammoth 3500, the Silverado 2500 offers an excellent balance between power and practicality for drivers who need more than your standard ½ ton truck can offer.

Who's It For?

Chevrolet didn’t build the Silverado 2500 for your average driver. The power and towing capacity might be overkill for some drivers. However, those who need a true powerhouse will love the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. This heavy-duty pick-up truck offers versatility and power for those who need it most. The Silverado 2500 will be appreciated by drivers who spend a lot of time towing or hauling, whether it’s for work or play. From heavy equipment transportation and moving construction materials to campers and car haulers, the Silverado 2500 can do it all. Off-road enthusiasts will want to consider the ZR2 trim, geared for rugged terrain adventures.

What's New for 2024?

Chevrolet gives the Silverado a makeover for 2024, updating headlamps, grille, and the front bumper for a more stylish front end. The top-tier High Country model gets a new Midnight Edition package that blackens the usual exterior chrome accents. But the refresh isn't limited to the exterior. The interior gets a more modern display, with a 13.4-in. infotainment display for the LT, LTZ, and High Country models. Those trims also get a reworked central console with a wireless charging pad. From a power standpoint, the upgrades for 2024 include a slight power boost for the diesel power train, up to 470 hp and 975 lb.-ft. of torque. Tech updates include tweaks to the adaptive cruise control feature and the blind-spot monitoring system. Also new this year is the ZR2, targeting off-road enthusiasts.

Real World Performance

A powerful truck starts with a robust powerplant, and the Silverado 2500 has two. Drivers who choose the 6.6-liter V8 gas engine will enjoy up to 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Stepping up to the 6.6-liter Duramax engine is a must for those who spend a lot of time towing because it delivers 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Opting for the diesel engine will unleash a colossal 22,500-pound maximum towing capacity, more than enough to tow a large, fully equipped fifth-wheel RV trailer with ease, or haul a skid steer to a work site. Both the 6.6-liter V8 gas engine and the 6.6-liter turbodiesel engine come paired with a 10-speed Allison® automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available for those who need more traction.
